Muir, who founded J. Muir & Associates in 2018, has over 15 years of experience in business law. The firm, which has offices in Miami/Coral Gables, Boynton Beach, Gainesville, and Tampa, focuses on providing effective legal support and community investment. Muir’s recent appointments as receiver add a significant dimension to her practice, demonstrating her capacity to navigate complex corporate challenges.

Muir’s legal journey began at the University of Miami School of Law, where she excelled in advocacy competitions. She won “Best Brief” in Miami Law’s Advanced Moot Court competition and received the John F. Evans Memorial Scholarship. Her dedication earned her induction into the Order of Barristers, a national honor society for student advocates.
Following her graduation amidst the 2008 subprime mortgage crisis, Muir established her own firm. She recounted her initial months, stating, “In my first month in business, our gross revenue was $350, which I used to pay for a $100 virtual office and business cards.” Her early client acquisition strategy involved attending community events. Initially, she handled a diverse range of cases for friends, including recovering a dog from an ex-boyfriend. These novel situations evolved into an area of expertise, with satisfied clients becoming her primary referral source.
As the practice grew, Muir focused on representing entrepreneurs seeking efficient results, and the firm specialized in business law, offering contract and litigation services as outside general counsel to businesses. The firm now comprises a team of 12, including four attorneys.
Community Leadership and Recognition
A self-proclaimed “joiner,” Muir has held numerous executive and leadership positions in community organizations. Her involvement with the Coral Gables Bar Association began when she volunteered to update their website, leading to her joining the board and subsequent elevation to Treasurer, President-Elect, and President from 2012 to 2013.
Muir also contributed significantly to the Miami Dade Bar, formerly the Dade County Bar Association. She served as a writer and editor for the Bulletin before joining the board of directors in 2010. Her initiatives included a website redesign, implementing new financial controls, and hiring an executive director. She held positions as Treasurer, Secretary, Vice President, President-Elect, and served as President for 2020-2021. During her presidency of the Miami-Dade Bar Association, she oversaw the renovation of the association’s headquarters into a co-working space for attorneys and a successful rebrand.
